Commissioned for Thames & Hudson and authored by anime researcher Stefan Riekeles, Anime Architecture is the definitive survey on the background artworks from foundational anime including AKIRA, Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tekkonkinkreet. I produced a case design for the limited collector’s edition, featuring a cel painting by Hiromasa Ogura from Ghost in the Shell, screen-printed on a clear acrylic slipcase. The book case is printed with the scene’s Gouache background layer painting, echoing the method used to animate the movie’s dense cityscape scenes.
