In late 2021, merritt k tweeted ‘I want to produce a coffee table book that’s just pictures of LAN parties from the 90s and 2000s’ along with four photographs of some happily sleep-deprived Y2K network gamers. The post blew up, receiving over 10,000 likes, leading merritt to get in touch with Read-Only Memory to pitch the idea. A year of research and development later the project – featuring a bold design drawing heavily from the home computer aesthetics of the late 1990s – was successfully crowdfunded on Volume in just a few days.
